Prayer Shawl Ministry

Through the prayerful and thoughtful knitting of shawls, our community of faith seeks to offer comfort and solace to those in our congregation, as well as neighbors, friends and family members who are sick, suffering in any way, bereaved, or going through a life transition such as moving, a career change, or welcome a child into the world.

Once a year we bless all of the shawls that have been knit through a laying on of hands during Sunday morning worship.  Those that have been blessed are distributed throughout the year by the pastor, deacons and others in the congregation.

Knitting patterns for prayer shawls is below.

Prayer Shawl

 

Use #11 Circular needles

Need 3 skeins of yarn

 

  • Cast on 57 Stitches

  • First row: knit 3, pearl 3

  • 2nd row: Start with the opposite stitch from what you ended on.                        (ie if it was a knit then do a pearl)

  • Knit for 57 to 58 inches

  • Cast off

  • Fringe if desired.
